Nepal is often described as a magical kingdom. Even the flight
into Kathmandu is a breathtaking experience. You will never forgot
that first glimpse of the Himalayas as the materialize out of the
clouds. You may even mistake this massage mountain range for a large
group of clouds, only to realize that you a peering at eight of
the ten highest mountains in the world. The sheer power and beauty
of this famous mountain range are reason enough to visit. However,
Nepal has much more to offer.
The Himalayas have historically created a geographical isolation
that has allowed Nepal to develop a unique and fascinating culture.
Although eighty percent of the population are Hindu most Nepalese
practice Buddhism to some extext. The people of Nepal are fanatical
about their religions and beliefs which is reflected in every aspect
of their lives. Observing a Tibetan grandmother spinning a prayer
wheel for hours on end chanting Om mani padme humwill only
give you a glimpse of their devotion. The thousands of temples and
stupas scattered across Nepal are testiments to this. It is often
said that there are more festivals in Nepal than days so chances
are that you will be lucky enough to observe one or two. The Nepalese
culture is as fascinating as the towering peaks of Everest, Lhotse
and Annapurna.
The vast majority of people come to Nepal to trek or climb. Although
the Himilayas are awe inspiring to view from the confines of the
Kathmandu Valley, to truly experience them you must trek within
their mighty ranges. The possibilities are endless and range from
Sherpa supported expeditions to independent treks in remote regions.
Two of the most popular regions for trekking are Everest and Annapurna.
Both areas are heavily developed along the trails and the majority
of travellers do not need a guide or porter to complete major routes.
Nepal is truly remarkable place and should not be missed.
